Update on the SVA path after the weather alert: the Vernazza-Corniglia path reopens, while the Vernazza-Monterosso one has been closed

The Park is currently working on the Vernazza Monterosso stretch for rebuilding 8 km of path collapsed, due to heavy rains

(Sede Parco Cinque Terre, 06 October 2021)

The inspections on the SVA Sentiero Verde Azzurro ended a few hours ago that, as usual, have been carried out by geologists appointed by the Park Authority, following the weather alerts. The experts are in charge of verifying the state of practicability of the path network after strong weather events, with particular attention to the most attended paths, such as the SVA one.

On the stretch of the SVA path from Vernazza to Corniglia, the technicians did not find any particular geological problems and, therefore, it can be accessed again.

On the other hand, the Vernazza-Monterosso stretch is still closed. A substantial portion of the path (about 8 meters), running along the head of a dry-stone wall, on the left bank of Rio Gaggià, has collapsed, temporarily compromising its practicability. The erosive phenomenon that caused part of the path to be exported was due to the fluvial dynamics of the raging torrent, due to the heavy rainfall of recent days.

The Park Authority is already at work on the SV Vernazza Monterosso stretch to clear away the debris, provide for the retrieval of the suitable stone materials and therefore the rebuilding of the dry-stone wall that supports the path.

We recommend you to follow the updates in real time on the practicability of the Park path network, both on the Authority portal and on the web app at the link mappe.parconazioanel5terre.it
