Natura 2000 Network
Natura 2000 Network helps enhance biodiversity through the establishment of a wide network of Sites of Community Interest (SCIs) and Special Protection Areas (SPAs), and through other actions aimed at safeguarding and enhancing the nature emergencies of our region.
Liguria is characterized by a high level of biodiversity thanks to the presence of three biogeographical regions: mediterranean, continental and alpine.
In compliance with the Habitats Directive, thanks to the support of the experts from the University of Genoa and Milano, the Region identified the habitats and the the species in its territory that must be safeguarded in compliance with this Community directive, and it proposed the establishment of 125 SCIs and 7 SPAs.
