Hamlets and Sanctuaries
The Cinque Terre are considered one of the most evocative Italian coastal attractions thanks to their geographical and anthropic properties and to their naturally rugged and uneven hilly terrain, softened by the construction of terraces or belts for cultivation. The villages were built following the natural shape of the hills and are located where the sea creeps into the land. At an altitude ranging from 300 to 450 metres above sea level, five Marian sanctuaries can be found, each corresponding to one of the hamlets of the Cinque Terre.
